G’day Readers,
Welcome to the September 1–15, 2025 edition of Indian Abroad! This fortnight, we’ve packed the paper with everything that keeps our desi community buzzing here in Australia, plus a good dose of what’s cooking back home in India.
First up, our Bharat Beats pages bring you the big stories from the motherland — from the Supreme Court’s new take on managing stray dogs after sterilisation and vaccination, to some serious wins for the fisheries sector with lakhs of stakeholders joining the National Fisheries Digital Platform. There’s also chatter on online gaming rules and how they’re shaping up the market. On the lighter side, Argentina (yep, Messi and the boys!) is heading to Kerala this November for a friendly, and Lollapalooza India is back with dates locked in for January 2026 in Mumbai. Plus, we’ve got the latest on monsoon mayhem, a long-pending conviction finally seeing the light of day in J&K, and a solid update on India’s manufacturing boom.
Now, let’s yarn about what’s happening right here at home. Our Community Section is chockers with stories that’ll make you feel proud and connected. From a lively Rajasthani folk dance workshop at the Brisbane Consulate to a massive multicultural reception at Queensland Parliament, it’s all about celebrating our roots while making mates across communities. There’s plenty of Independence Day spirit too — from flag hoists and colourful kite festivals to heartwarming Raksha Bandhan celebrations at the High Commission and around the states. You’ll also see big moves like the WAVES Summit in Melbourne, which is all about bringing the Indian and Aussie film industries closer for co-productions and creative collabs.
And that’s not all — we’ve got stories of business councils joining forces, student interactions in WA, and some cracking community events like yoga sessions, cricket tournaments, and traditional Teej festivities. Add to that the Independence Day receptions in Perth and Melbourne, which saw a fair share of political bigwigs, defence folks, and community legends all under one roof.
So grab a cuppa, kick back, and dive into this issue that’s packed with colour, culture, and all things community. As always, we’re stoked to bring you a slice of home right here in Aussie land.
Cheers,
Dr. Ramana Panda
