AIBC delegation concludes India mission with high-level engagements in Mumbai

Canberra, February 25 (Indian Abroad Newsdesk)

After a successful business-to-business exchange in Chennai, the Australian India Business Council (AIBC) delegation advanced to Mumbai, marking the second and final leg of its India mission with a series of high-profile economic engagements in the country’s financial capital.

The delegation’s Mumbai programme began with meetings linked to the Future Economic Corporation Council, held in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, and the Government of Maharashtra, ahead of the Global Economic Corporation Summit 2026. The discussions centred on strengthening economic partnerships and positioning India within an evolving global trade and investment framework.

At the summit, delegates heard keynote addresses from India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Piyush Goyal. Dr. Jaishankar spoke about the rapid transformation of the global order, noting that the world is witnessing a transitional phase in which established systems are overlapping with emerging structures. He highlighted how economics is increasingly influenced by geopolitics, security dynamics and the growing role of artificial intelligence.

AIBC representatives participated in two panel discussions alongside counterparts from the US-UK Business Council and the UAE Business Council. The sessions focused on progress surrounding the India-Australia Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and India’s expanding contribution to global economic growth. Delegates underscored opportunities for deeper collaboration in trade, investment and technology-driven sectors.

A key outcome of the Mumbai visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the World Trade Centre. The agreement is expected to facilitate stronger institutional cooperation and open new avenues for partnership between the World Trade Centre and the Australian Business Council. Delegates expressed appreciation to Dr. Vijay Kalantri, Chair, CEO Priya Pansare and their team for hosting the discussions and providing insights into the Centre’s operations and global network.

The mission concluded with a reception hosted by Australia’s Consul General in Mumbai, Christian Jack, along with Deputy Consul General Todd Miller. The gathering brought together members of the local business community and offered an informal platform for dialogue, networking and reflection on the week’s engagements.

With strengthened institutional ties, expanded networks and fresh commitments to collaboration, the AIBC delegation wrapped up its India tour on a positive note, signalling continued momentum in Australia-India economic relations.
