The Australia India Business Council (AIBC) has wrapped up its largest-ever business delegation to Chennai, with participants returning inspired after a week focused on strengthening commercial ties between Australia and Tamil Nadu.
The visit highlighted the growing momentum in the India–Australia economic partnership, particularly under the India–Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA). Delegates explored opportunities for collaboration in innovation, SMEs, skills development and sectoral partnerships, reflecting the expanding scope of bilateral trade.
Among the key engagements was a strategic meeting with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, where discussions centred on startup ecosystems and cooperation with Startup Tamil Nadu. The delegation also toured the A2B factory and visited the famed Kanchipuram Silk Park, gaining insights into traditional craftsmanship and modern production.
Cultural and industry interactions added further depth to the programme. Delegates visited the historic coastal town of Mahabalipuram, engaged with actor and entrepreneur Khushboo Sundar, and explored Chennai’s technology sector during a visit to Madras IT Park.
Organisers acknowledged the support of Cameron Noble from the Australian Consulate in Chennai and Merin Devassia from the Indo-Australian Chamber of Commerce for facilitating the initiative. An official reception hosted by Silai Zaki brought together members of diverse business communities, encouraging networking and collaboration.
Participants said the delegation generated strong business-to-business connections, with discussions spanning investment, innovation and cross-border partnerships. The visit concluded with optimism about future cooperation, as AIBC reaffirmed its commitment to connecting Australian enterprises with India’s dynamic market and fostering long-term economic engagement.
