Mumbai, Sep 17 (IANS) Actor turned politician Mithun Chakraborty on Thursday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being “straightforward” while reiterating a previous announcement that West Bengal will be observing Annapurna Diwas on the his birthday.
Chakraborty, speaking to IANS, wished the Prime Minister on his birthday, stating that people will always remember 25 years of PM Modi’s service and that he feels that no one else will get the opportunity like PM Modi to serve the nation for 25 years.
He said that West Bengal is observing the day as Annapurna Diwas because, “we (West Bengal) are all very grateful, mothers and the sisters, who have been given the gift of Annapurna Diwas.”
While wishing the Prime Minister a “many, many happy returns of the day,” the veteran actor turned politician said, “Happy Birthday! Please grow more, grow more than now… and may you live a long life, that is what I pray to God.”
Addressing the Prime Minister as ‘Sir’, Chakraborty reminisced about the time he first met PM Modi. He revealed that he met the Prime Minister after he first joined the party and that he has always been a huge fan of the former since beginning.
When asked if things have changed much, Mithun Chakraborty said that the Prime Minister has not changed at all since he met him.
“He has always remained very straightforward, very clear about what he wants. Mithun Da, you need to get this done. He has mostly remained direct with me regarding work. I appreciate his straightforwardness and directness,” he added.
On a light note, Chakraborty added that there are more things, but he cannot reveal them.
Meanwhile, PM Modi addressed the women of the state in a social media post, where he added that the Annapurna Yojana scheme will play a crucial role in empowering the them.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had announced in West Bengal’s Bidhannagar that September 17 will be celebrated as ‘Annapurna Divas’ in the state every year, as the Rs 3,000 monthly assistance scheme for women was guaranteed by him. Additionally, the fourth instalment of the BJP government’s Annapurna Yojana reached the bank accounts of nearly 1.5 crore women in Bengal on Thursday.
