Itanagar, Sep 29 (IANS) Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen K.T. Parnaik (Retd) on Tuesday stressed the need to strengthen Advanced Landing Grounds (ALGs) and air connectivity infrastructure in the border state to improve logistics, communication and emergency response capabilities, besides boosting overall socio-economic development.
Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command, Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia, on Tuesday called on the Governor at Lok Bhavan in Itanagar, and they discussed national security, advanced landing grounds and assistance during natural calamities and medical emergencies.
The Governor commended the Eastern Air Command for its steadfast support to the people of Arunachal Pradesh, particularly during natural disasters, medical emergencies, and other critical situations. He said that the Indian Air Force has consistently demonstrated its commitment to public service by reaching remote and inaccessible areas where timely assistance can make a significant difference.
Highlighting the unique geographical challenges of the state, Lt Gen Parnaik (Retd) noted that the IAF plays an indispensable role in responding to floods, landslides, and other emergencies. Through its swift deployment capabilities, the Air Force has been instrumental in airlifting relief materials, rescuing stranded civilians, and evacuating affected persons to safer locations, he said.
Recognising the potential of Arunachal Pradesh’s youth, the Governor encouraged the Air Force to expand outreach initiatives through career awareness programmes, NCC engagement, air displays, and educational visits.
The Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief assured the Governor of the Eastern Air Command’s unwavering commitment to supporting the people and the state of Arunachal Pradesh in every possible manner. He reaffirmed that the Indian Air Force would continue to work closely with the state government in disaster response, medical emergencies, connectivity support, and nation-building initiatives, ensuring timely assistance and contributing to the welfare, development, and security of the state.
Meanwhile, Eastern Air Command of the IAF, in a post on X, said: “Indian and Myanmar Defence Forces personnel conducted joint training with IAF helicopters in Eastern AOR. This was aimed at enhancing operational coordination, interoperability and jointmanship. The training underscores the enduring bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations and their Armed Forces.”
