Guwahati, Aug 25 (IANS) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said that the state government is adopting a community-first approach under the VB-G RAM G initiative, with a focus on improving livelihoods, connectivity and public infrastructure across villages.
Taking to social media platform X, Sarma said the government’s vision of a developed Assam would be realised through the active participation of people at the grassroots level. “Under VB–G RAM G, Assam is taking a community-first approach. Better livelihoods, better connectivity, better public spaces and facilities for every village,” the Chief Minister said.
He added that a “Viksit Assam” would be built in villages and by the people themselves, emphasising community participation in the state’s development process.
The Chief Minister’s remarks come as the state government seeks to strengthen rural infrastructure and improve access to basic amenities while creating greater livelihood opportunities for people living in villages. The community-first approach places emphasis on ensuring that development initiatives reach rural households and address local requirements, including employment opportunities, connectivity and public facilities.
Sarma said that villages would remain central to the state’s broader development vision, with local communities playing an important role in shaping and implementing development initiatives.
The focus on better connectivity is also aimed at improving access between villages and nearby towns and growth centres, helping rural residents access markets, education, healthcare and other essential services. Improved public spaces and village facilities are expected to contribute to better living conditions and strengthen community infrastructure.
The government has been highlighting rural development and livelihood generation as key components of its broader vision for a developed Assam.
The Chief Minister’s statement also underlines the importance of local participation in development, with the government seeking to position villagers not merely as beneficiaries of welfare and infrastructure programmes but as active participants in Assam’s growth story.
The initiative is expected to complement the state’s wider efforts towards strengthening rural economies and improving basic services.
Sarma said the vision of a “Viksit Assam” would begin at the village level, with development driven by local communities and aimed at creating better opportunities and living conditions for people across the state.
The Chief Minister’s post reinforced the government’s message that inclusive rural development and community participation will remain important pillars of Assam’s development agenda.
