Australia, India advance sports partnership

CANBERRA, JULY 23/INDIAN ABROAD NEWSDESK

High Commissioner of India to Australia Nagesh Singh met Kieren Perkins OAM, Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Sports Commission and Olympic swimming legend, at the Australian Institute of Sport to discuss expanding sports cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting focused on advancing the Australia-India roadmap for sports collaboration, launched by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and during the recent Prime Ministerial visit to Australia.

The discussions covered collaboration in sports science, high-performance training, sports technology, athlete development and the hosting of major sporting events. Both sides also explored opportunities to strengthen institutional partnerships and promote the exchange of expertise between sports organisations in Australia and India.

The meeting reaffirmed the growing importance of sports as a pillar of the India–Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, reflecting the two countries’ shared commitment to promoting excellence, innovation and people-to-people ties through sporting cooperation.
