Dialogue highlights diaspora connections and Australia–India relations

Australia India Institute CEO Lisa Singh hosted Dr Guru Prakash Paswan, an emerging political leader from Bihar, during his recent visit to Sydney as part of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s (DFAT) Special Visitor’s Program.
The interaction provided an opportunity for an exchange of ideas on politics and the Indian diaspora, with discussions also touching on themes of identity and belonging across continents. Lisa Singh shared personal reflections on her girmitiya ancestry, adding depth to the conversation on diaspora experiences.
Dr Paswan’s visit to Australia under the DFAT program is aimed at enhancing understanding and strengthening ties between Australia and India.
The engagement highlighted the importance of dialogue and people-to-people connections in fostering closer bilateral relations between the two countries.
