Consul General Kajari Biswas joined members of the community at the Australian Sikh Heritage Trail to mark Australian Sikh Heritage Day, recognising the historical contributions of Sikh settlers to Western Australia.
Located along the banks of the Canning River, the heritage site stands as a place of reflection and remembrance. The trail is built around a historic cremation ground used by early Sikh migrants in Western Australia. Historical records indicate that the site was also shared by members of other communities, including the Chinese community.
Supported by the City of Canning, the heritage trail aims to preserve and share the stories of early Sikh migrants who played an important role in shaping the region’s multicultural history.
The event was attended by Deputy Chair of Committees Dr Parwinder Kaur MLC, MLA Yaz Mubarakai, MP Sam Lim, MLA Terry Healy, Deputy Mayor Mark Bain of the City of Canning, Mayor Ruth Butterfield of the City of Armadale, and Deputy Mayor Serena Williamson of the City of Gosnells, along with members of the Sikh community and local residents.
