Kolkata, Aug 11 (IANS) The helicopter in which West Bengal Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, was travelling from Kolkata to Keshpur in West Midnapore district had to make an emergency landing midway at Kolaghat in East Midnapore district on Tuesday afternoon because of bad weather.
As per initial information available, the helicopter in which the Chief Minister was travelling, made the emergency landing at a football ground of the Kolaghat Balaka Mancha next to the Kolaghat Thermal Power Plant.
The Chief Minister boarded the helicopter from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata on Tuesday and his destination was Keshpur in West Midnapore district.
However, weather conditions deteriorated and the chopper pilot, without taking a risk, decided to make an emergency landing at Kolaghat in adjacent East Midnapore district.
After that, the Chief Minister left for Keshpur by road from the football ground at Kolaghat, where the helicopter made an emergency landing.
Later, the helicopter left for Kolkata from Kolaghat.
CM Adhikari is scheduled to attend the martyrdom day anniversary of legendary Indian freedom fighter from Bengal, Khudiram Bose at Keshpur.
Keshpur is the birthplace of the freedom fighter, who was hanged till death in British-ruled India.
From Keshpur, the Chief Minister is scheduled to go to the adjacent Bankura district later in the day. There, he is scheduled to hold a meeting with the officials of the seven districts under the Western Region Development Board.
It is alleged that the previous Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress regime had completely neglected the Board and did not allocate funds for it in the last few years.
It is alleged that all the development work of the Board was at a standstill for a long time.
The new state government allocated funds for the Board in the first budget. It is learnt that the development outline will be discussed in Tuesday’s meeting.
The district administration officials of a total of seven districts come under the said Board.
At Bankura, the Chief Minister is also scheduled to attend a family function of the local Bharatiya Janata Party legislator, Niladri Sekhar Dana.
The Chief Minister is scheduled to be back in Kolkata later in the evening. However, it is not yet clear whether he would come back by helicopter again or make a road trip.
