Kolkata, Aug 26 (IANS) The West Bengal Police on Wednesday informed that their sleuths had arrested five illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators and one local Indian agent within the last 24 hours, following joint operations by the state police and the Border Security Force (BSF) in the Indo‑Bangladesh bordering district of Malda.
However, an insider from the Malda district police said the police did not make all six arrests at once.
First, the police arrested the local agent, Ripon Biswas, along with an illegal Bangladeshi infiltrator, Manik, from the Bhabanipur area under Habibpur Police Station in Malda district on Tuesday night.
Biswas, a resident of Baidyapur village under Habibpur Police Station, was primarily working as a broker, helping illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators enter West Bengal or return to their country for a commission.
Manik, on the other hand, is a resident of the Bhuvanpara area in Rajshahi district, Bangladesh.
Following another raid and search operation within the Habibpur area, BSF personnel arrested four other illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators. The four arrested have been identified as Mohammad Mohram Ali, Mohammad Uamin Hussain, Mohammad Jagaddal Hussain and Mohammad Sajib Husain.
All four are residents of Rajshahi district in Bangladesh. While Manik and Ripon Biswas were presented before a district court in Malda, the other four were sent to a holding centre in the district and will later be pushed back to Bangladesh.
Since the arrests of Manik and Biswas involved both the district police and the BSF, they were produced before the court. In the case of the other four, in which only the BSF was involved, they were sent directly to the holding centre.
All five arrested illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators had entered West Bengal earlier and were attempting to return to Bangladesh amid increased police activity in the border areas to identify illegal infiltrators.
