Bihar: Major reshuffle in Police Dept, 11 BPS officers transferred

Patna, Aug 18 (IANS) The Bihar Home Department’s Police Branch has ordered another administrative reshuffle in the state police department, transferring and posting 11 Bihar Police Service (BPS) officers.

The notification was issued on August 18, 2026, with the new postings effective immediately and remaining in force until further orders.

The reshuffle covers several important units, including the Special Branch, Prohibition and State Narcotics Control Bureau, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Economic Offences Unit (EOU) and Special Vigilance Unit (SVU).

Among the key changes, Md. Shibli Nomani, earlier serving as ASP in the Special Branch, Patna, has been appointed SP (B) in the same branch.

Mukul Kumar Ranjan, formerly SDPO‑1 (Sadar), Khagaria, has been transferred to Bihar Police Headquarters, Patna, as SP (Law and Order).

Upendra Kumar Yadav, ASP, Special Armed Police‑1, Patna, has been posted as SP (Prohibition and State Narcotics Control Bureau), Patna.

Chandra Bhushan, previously DSP in the Special Vigilance Unit, has been appointed Senior DSP (Special Crimes), CID, Patna. At the same time, Sudhir Kumar has been posted as Senior DSP (Law and Order Branch), Bihar Police Headquarters, Patna.

The EOU has also seen changes. DSP Zakir Hussain and DSP Rajan Prasad Singh, both previously posted with the EOU, have been transferred to the Special Vigilance Unit, Patna, as DSPs.

Arun Kumar Akela, formerly DSP (Rail), Katihar, has also been posted as DSP in the Special Vigilance Unit, Patna.

Meanwhile, Sanjeev Kumar, who was serving as DSP with the Special Task Force (STF), Bihar, Patna, has been transferred to the Economic Offences Unit, Patna, as DSP.

The order was issued under the signature of Ratnesh Kumar, Under Secretary to the Government of Bihar, and has taken effect immediately. A copy has also been forwarded to the e‑Gazette Cell for publication in the next issue of the Bihar Gazette.

Earlier in the day, Bihar Police had transferred 18 IPS officers in the ranks of DIG, SSP and SP.
