Bihar: Post-mortem confirms brutal assault in Dehri EO murder

Patna, Aug 5 (IANS) The post-mortem report of Vimal Kumar, Executive Officer of the Dehri Municipal Council, has revealed that he died after sustaining severe injuries in a brutal assault with a blunt object. The findings have provided crucial details about the circumstances surrounding his death.

Following the release of the report, Vimal Kumar’s wife met Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary at his official residence and demanded strict action in the case. The Chief Minister assured the family that justice would be delivered and directed the district administration to ensure a speedy trial.

Choudhary later shared details of the meeting on X, stating that he had assured the deceased officer’s family that the strictest legal action would be taken against those responsible.

Vimal Kumar was allegedly beaten to death on August 1 in the Barun police station area of Aurangabad. Police subsequently arrested his driver, Mithilesh, who allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.

However, the deceased officer’s wife has levelled serious allegations against the Dehri MLA of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and demanded an impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding her husband’s death.

The murder has triggered a political controversy, with opposition parties repeatedly targeting the state government over the incident and raising questions about the law-and-order situation in Bihar. They have demanded a fair and independent investigation.

According to Civil Surgeon Maniraj Ranjan, the post-mortem examination found no evidence that a gunshot or a sharp-edged weapon killed Vimal Kumar. Instead, he suffered extensive internal injuries caused by a severe beating with a blunt object.

The examination revealed particularly severe injuries to the head, accompanied by heavy bleeding. Both major bones in the neck were fractured, affecting the respiratory system and further compromising his condition. Several ribs on both sides of his chest were also found to be severely damaged.

“Vimal Kumar suffered extremely severe head injuries accompanied by heavy bleeding. Both major bones of the neck were fractured, compromising his respiratory system, and the cessation of breathing further aggravated the condition,” Civil Surgeon Ranjan said.

The police investigation is continuing, while the demand for a speedy trial and an impartial probe has intensified following the post-mortem findings.
