The Australia India Business Council (AIBC), in partnership with the University of Melbourne, made a stylish mark on Melbourne Fashion Week by hosting a unique event on the business of fashion, recently bridging Australia-India trade and cultural ties in this growing industry.
The event, a first for AIBC in the official Fashion Week lineup, featured a star-studded panel moderated by Molina Asthana GAICD, AIBC’s National Chair for Sport, Art, and Culture. Indian-Australian actor and model Sharon Johal, Australian actress Sarah Roberts, and Indian-Australian designer Kudrat Makkar of Mastani label shared insights on identity, Bollywood’s fashion influence, and the expanding cross-cultural opportunities for Australia-India fashion collaborations.
The event opened with a warm welcome from Prof. Sara Wills, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, who celebrated the university’s collaborations with AIBC and its Delhi-based Global Centre. Guests enjoyed Natio giveaways, exclusive vegan leather jackets from Portofino Trading, and sustainable luxury tea towels from Punar by Priya Ravindra.
