Burqa-clad rowdy-sheeter held after evading police & court warrants in Karnataka’s Mangaluru

Mangaluru, July 14 (IANS) An absconding rowdy-sheeter who allegedly disguised himself in a burqa to evade police surveillance and avoid appearing before the court has been arrested by the Ullal Police in Karnataka’s Mangaluru.

The accused, who was wanted in multiple criminal cases, had allegedly been on the run despite several court warrants issued against him, the police said in an official statement on Tuesday.

The accused has been identified as Imran aka Surmo Imran, son of late Hasanabba, a resident of Darga Road in Ullal’s Melangadi.

According to the police, Imran is a notorious rowdy-sheeter with 23 criminal cases registered against him across Mangaluru city and Udupi district. He was wanted in several cases in which courts had issued warrants after he repeatedly failed to appear for legal proceedings.

Police said the accused allegedly wore a burqa to conceal his identity and escape police detection while remaining on the run.

Acting on credible intelligence, Ullal Police launched a special operation and successfully tracked down and arrested the accused.

Investigators said that Imran is involved in multiple cases registered at various police stations in Mangaluru city. He will be produced before the jurisdictional court for further legal proceedings.

Police are continuing their investigation into the pending cases against the accused.

The Channapatna town police have arrested a rowdy-sheeter for allegedly drugging, stripping, assaulting and filming a nude video of Channapatna Tahsildar B.N. Girish before attempting to extort Rs 10 lakh from him.

The incident reportedly took place in the early hours of June 28 at the Tahsildar’s official residence in Kuvempu Nagar of Channapatna.

Police recently arrested a rowdy sheeter named Stanley directly from a wedding venue in Kolar Gold Fields for violating externment orders and intimidating locals.

A rowdy sheeter wanted in dozens of cases across Karnataka has finally been arrested by Banaswadi Police after a sustained operation.

The accused, Syed Abrar (32), had allegedly been on the run despite facing 67 criminal cases and more than 37 non-bailable warrants issued by various courts.

Abrar, a resident of Kadugondana Halli and a known rowdy-sheeter, is accused of involvement in a range of offences, including murder, attempted murder, robbery and theft.

Police said that he had developed a pattern of avoiding court appearances and frequently changing his hideouts to escape arrest.
