Caste & gender discussed at Australia India Institute Melbourne

Melbourne, June 13 (Indian Abroad Newsdesk)

The Australia India Institute recently hosted Dr Roja Suganthy-Singh at its Melbourne office, where she met with members of the Institute’s education team to discuss issues related to social justice, education, and community empowerment.

Dr Suganthy-Singh is the co-founder of the Dalit Solidarity Forum in the USA, one of the oldest Dalit rights organisations in North America, established in 1999. Her work focuses on supporting young writers and scholars from marginalised communities in India, helping them build confidence and improve their writing skills.

She is the author of Spotted Goddesses: Dalit Women’s Agency—Narratives on Caste and Gender Violence, a book that has gained academic recognition and is widely used in universities and activist circles across the US, UK, and India.

The Institute welcomed the visit as an opportunity to deepen engagement with global voices advocating for inclusion, representation, and social change.
