CBI arrests CBN inspector in MP’s Neemuch over Rs 50 lakh ‘bribe’

Neemuch (Madhya Pradesh), Sep 11 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) Inspector Siddharth Jain in Madhya Pradesh’s Neemuch in connection with an alleged Rs 50 lakh bribe linked to a drug seizure case.

According to information, the arrest came during a late-night raid at Jain’s official residence in the CBN colony, where the investigating agency examined documents, financial records and electronic devices as part of the probe.

The case is understood to be linked to allegations of a bribe in connection with the handling of a drug seizure. The CBI is examining the alleged transaction and the circumstances in which the money was reportedly sought or transferred.

The agency is scrutinising financial and digital evidence to establish the money trail and determine whether other persons were involved in the alleged transaction.

During the search, the CBI team examined seizure records, official documents and bank transaction details. Mobile phones, laptops and other electronic devices were also scrutinised.

The agency is also looking into information that the suspected amount may have been routed through the bank account of a close relative of the officer instead of being transferred directly to him.

After his arrest, Jain was taken to the Neemuch Cantt police station and was subsequently produced before a local court.

The CBI is also examining the alleged recovery of Rs 4 lakh in connection with the case. However, the circumstances of the alleged recovery and its precise connection with the Rs 50 lakh transaction have not been officially disclosed.

The development has caused a stir within the CBN department as the agency examines whether the alleged transaction was limited to the arrested officer or involved other persons.

According to information, the CBI is examining the financial trail, digital evidence and records relating to the drug seizure to establish the complete sequence of events. In a video, arrested Inspector Siddharth Jain could be seen attempting to cover his face when he was taken by CBI officials for investigation.
