CID questions fresh links in Abhishek Banerjee remarks case after Kalighat search

Kolkata, June 18 (IANS) West Bengal’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers on Thursday once again raided Harish Chatterjee Street in south Kolkata’s Kalighat area. This time, CID officers visited the residence of Mamata Banerjee’s sister-in-law, who is also the aunt of Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

The raid started from 2 p.m. onwards. The CID team left the house before 3 p.m. The detectives were present at the residence of Abhishek Banerjee’s aunt for about an hour. Mamata Banerjee’s house is located around 250 metres away from the residence.

According to sources, a case has been filed based on comments made by Abhishek Banerjee during the Assembly election campaign. The CID conducted the raid in connection with that case.

While campaigning for the Assembly elections, Abhishek Banerjee had said that he would play DJ after the counting of votes on May 4. Allegedly, his remarks were provocative in nature. The CID is investigating the matter.

One of Mamata Banerjee’s sisters-in-law is Reena Gayen alias Nanti.

She lives at 29/D Harish Chatterjee Street. Her daughter, Aditi Gayen, has been seen with Abhishek Banerjee on several occasions at various party events. According to sources, Aditi is closely associated with Abhishek Banerjee’s social media team. She manages social media activities and also oversees his schedule.

Aditi was also seen taking photographs with Argentine footballer Lionel Messi at the Yuva Bharati Sports Complex.

Earlier, the CID had visited Abhishek Banerjee’s residence several times in connection with other cases. In the signature mismatch case related to the state Assembly, the CID had visited his residence on Harish Chatterjee Street and served him a notice.

The Trinamool Congress MP from Diamond Harbour has also appeared at the CID headquarters at Bhabani Bhawan several times. He was questioned by CID officials for two days in connection with the signature mismatch case and for one day in the provocative remarks case.

A few days ago, personnel from Salbani police station raided Kalighat in the middle of the night in search of Abhishek Banerjee’s executive assistant, Sumit Roy. They broke the lock and entered the house.

However, Sumit Roy was not found there. This time, the CID visited the residence of another relative of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee on the same street.
