Committee on Public Undertakings tables 6 reports in Parliament

New Delhi, Aug 6 (IANS) The Committee on Public Undertakings (CoPU), headed by BJP MP and Vice President Baijayant Jay Panda, presented six reports in Parliament on Thursday on the performance of Central public sector companies and recommendations to improve their efficiency.

The reports included a Comprehensive Examination Report on NHPC Limited, a Horizontal Examination Report on the Review of the Performance of Insurance Sector Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs), and four Action Taken Reports (ATRs) on the Audit Report relating to the setting up of 25,000 Wi-Fi hotspots by BSNL, the Comprehensive Examination of REC Limited, the Comprehensive Examination of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), and the Horizontal Examination of the Performance of Petroleum & Natural Gas Sector Central PSUs, according to a press statement.

Together, these reports cover critical sectors of the economy, with the Committee examining the performance of public sector undertakings and recommending measures to improve governance, accountability, and efficiency.

Among the key Reports presented was the Review of the Performance of Insurance Sector Central PSUs, in which the Committee championed the strategic imperative to elevate insurance penetration nationwide, actively driving the realisation of the ‘Insurance for All by 2047’ vision.

Furthermore, it highlighted the opportunity to spearhead digital transformation across the insurance ecosystem and catalyse inclusive access to affordable insurance products, thereby securing robust and flourishing financial protection for every citizen.

The Committee’s work over the past two years has also been marked by a significant increase in productivity. It presented 12 Reports during CoPU (2024–25), followed by 18 Reports during CoPU (2025–26), while also setting successive milestones by tabling 8 Reports in a single day in 2024 and 11 Reports in a single day in 2025.

For CoPU (2026–27), the Committee has identified 21 subjects for detailed examination, covering key sectors and emerging themes such as aviation, railways, coal, renewable energy investments, and the adoption of Artificial Intelligence in PSUs. Its work programme also includes detailed examinations of major CPSUs, including ONGC Videsh Limited, NewSpace India Limited, and Cochin Shipyard Limited.

The Committee also acknowledged the valuable contributions, active participation, and constructive deliberations of all its members, which have been instrumental in the effective discharge of its parliamentary responsibilities, the statement added.
