Community Annadanam marks auspicious start to new year in Brisbane

Brisbane, January 4 (Indian Abroad Newsdesk)

A spirit of devotion and service marked the beginning of New Year 2026 as members of the Annadanam community came together recently at the Sri Selva Vinayakar Koyil – Ganesha Temple to prepare and distribute food to the community.

Held at the temple in South Maclean, the collective effort saw volunteers cooking and sharing over 5,000 meals, reflecting the values of generosity, compassion, and togetherness. Consul General of India in Brisbane, Neetu M. Bhagotia, and Head of Chancery and Consul Sushil Kumar Goel, were present on the occasion. Their participation provided encouragement and support to the volunteers.

Organisers expressed gratitude to the dedicated volunteers who contributed their time and effort in cooking, serving, and cleaning, as well as to the sponsors whose generous support made the large-scale Annadanam possible.

Participants described the atmosphere as deeply spiritual and uplifting, filled with devotion and the joy of collective service. The annual tradition continues to grow, driven by the selfless commitment of volunteers and supporters, and stands as a meaningful way for the community to begin the New Year through service and shared humanity.

The Annadanam was described by organisers as more than a meal — a blessing and a reaffirmation of the values of giving and unity.
