Community service and volunteer leadership were recognised with Tamil Association of Queensland president Karthick Elangovan receiving the Moreton Volunteer Award 2025, highlighting the growing impact of multicultural organisations across the region.
The award acknowledges Elangovan’s sustained contribution to community initiatives and his role in strengthening cultural engagement and volunteerism. Community members described the honour as a reflection of years of dedication and service aimed at building stronger connections within Queensland’s diverse society.
In a social media post following the announcement, Elangovan said he felt “truly humbled and deeply honoured” to receive the recognition, adding that the award celebrates collective efforts to support local communities. He noted that volunteerism represents values such as mateship, generosity and compassion, emphasising that small acts of kindness can create meaningful change.
He also acknowledged the broader network of volunteers who continue to contribute their time and energy to community causes, describing the recognition as belonging to everyone committed to making a difference. A special note of thanks was extended to Julie-Ann Campbell MP for her support.
Community leaders said the recognition reflects the important role played by grassroots organisations like the Tamil Association of Queensland in promoting cultural harmony, civic participation and social wellbeing, while encouraging more individuals to step forward and engage in volunteer-driven initiatives.
