The Consulate General of India in Brisbane joined community members in supporting a yoga programme organised by Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (DJJS) Australia at Calamvale District Park, as part of celebrations marking the 11th International Day of Yoga. According to the Consulate General of India in Brisbane, the event brought together yoga enthusiasts and members of the Indian community to promote health, wellness and community engagement.
The programme was organised by DJJS Australia Brisbane in collaboration with Brisbane City Councillor Emily Kim. According to DJJS Australia, participants took part in yoga activities designed to encourage physical fitness, mental well-being and mindfulness.
The Consulate General of India in Brisbane said the event formed part of a wider series of International Day of Yoga celebrations being held across Queensland in partnership with community organisations, local councils and volunteers.
According to DJJS Australia, the organisation has been actively promoting yoga and meditation programmes across Australia to encourage healthy lifestyles and holistic well-being. The event at Calamvale District Park attracted strong participation from yoga practitioners, families and friends of India.
Observed annually on June 21,, the International Day of Yoga was proclaimed by the United Nations in 2014 following India’s proposal. According to the United Nations and India’s Ministry of Ayush, the annual observance highlights yoga’s contribution to physical health, mental wellness and sustainable living while encouraging people worldwide to adopt healthier lifestyles.
