Los Angeles, June 3 (IANS) Actor David Tennant, who is known for his work in ‘Rivals’, has shared that he spent his whole life being completely washed over by “guilt”.
The actor has admitted he’s “quite conflict-averse” and spends a lot of his time worrying about whether he’s “done the right thing” or “behaved appropriately” and he puts his feelings down to his childhood growing up in Scotland, reports ‘Female First UK’.
When asked what he feels guilty about, he told The Hollywood Reporter, “Everything, absolutely everything. I’m a Scottish Presbyterian. It’s my engine”.
“Everything is sent to make me feel bad about myself. That’s it, really. I don’t have any more profound an insight than that. Must be partly upbringing and partly psychology. I will often worry that one hasn’t done the right thing, behaved appropriately, been as kind as one should have been”, he added.
As per ‘Female First UK’, he went on to add that these feelings may have helped him take on characters who don’t have such a strong moral compass, like Tony Badingham in his hit Disney Plus show Rivals which is based on the books by Dame Jilly Cooper.
The actor said, “I think maybe having a sort of very keen sense of that allows me to understand characters like Tony Badingham, who has none of that”.
Speaking about whether he enjoys playing villains, David shared, “It’s interesting, as someone who is quite conflict-averse, as someone who suffers a lot from guilt and who’s not particularly liberated by a lack of morality in real life”.
“I suppose enjoyable is the word, to imagine what it might be like to walk in those very nicely put together three piece tailor-made suits and brogues. I mean, they’re fun to play, aren’t they? It’s enjoyable to imagine what life might be like if you didn’t give a s***”, he added.
David previously opened up about the raunchy antics of his Rivals character as the second part of season two hits screens later this week.
