The High Commissioner of India attended the annual Deepawali celebration held at the Federal Parliament, organised by the Hindu Council of Australia. The event was graced by Speaker of the House, the Hon Milton Dick, and the Hon Michelle Rowland, representing the Prime Minister and Attorney-General of Australia, alongside the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon Susan Ley.
Parliamentarians from across party lines joined the festivities, expressing their admiration for the Indian Hindu community’s contributions to Australia’s multicultural fabric. Dr Andrew Charlton MP, Cabinet Secretary and Chair of the Parliamentary Groups for Friendship with India, highlighted the recognition of October as Hindu Heritage Month in Australia.
The evening featured captivating Indian classical dance and instrumental music performances, along with an exhibition of traditional South Indian dolls. The significance and diversity of Deepawali celebrations across India were showcased through beautifully curated displays, reflecting the spirit of light, harmony, and cultural unity.
