The Consul General, Kajori Biswas, addressed the event “Women in Sport: Powering Australia–India Connections,” organised by the Centre for Australia India Relations in partnership with the Government of Western Australia.
In her remarks, the Consul General highlighted the growing prominence of women in sport and acknowledged the remarkable achievements of Indian women athletes and players on the global stage. She noted that forums such as this provide valuable opportunities to exchange ideas and explore ways in which Australia and India can work together to harness the expanding potential of women’s sport.
The event brought together leaders from government and the sporting sector to discuss the role of sport in strengthening bilateral ties and promoting greater participation of women in sporting activities.
Among those present were Senator Nita Green, Senator for Queensland and Assistant Minister for Northern Australia, Tourism and Pacific Island Affairs; Senator Varun Ghosh, Senator for Western Australia and Chair of the Environment and Communications Legislation Committee as well as Chair of the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights; Dr Parwinder Kaur MLC, Deputy Chair of Committees; and Chad Anderson, Director General of the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport.
The gathering also included representatives and leaders from a range of sports organisations across Australia and Western Australia, reflecting the growing momentum behind initiatives promoting women’s participation and leadership in sport.
Discussions during the event focused on strengthening connections between Australia and India through sport while recognising the achievements and future potential of women athletes in both countries.
