Brisbane, June 8 (Indian Abroad Newsdesk)

President of the Federation of Indian Communities of Queensland (FICQ) Dr Preethi Suraj has been recognised with the Queensland Day Award for her outstanding service to the community. The award was presented as part of the annual Queensland Day Awards organised by the South West Progress Association.

The event was attended by Milton Dick MP, Margie Nightingale MP, and Councillor Charles Strunk, who acknowledged the contributions of local leaders working to strengthen community life across Queensland.

In her acceptance speech, Dr Suraj expressed gratitude for the honour and thanked the organisers for their support of grassroots initiatives. “I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive this Community Leadership Award for the Oxley Ward. My sincere thanks to Milton Dick MP and Margie Nightingale MP for recognising and supporting the work we do within our communities,” she said.

FICQ described the recognition as a proud moment not only for the organisation but for the broader multicultural community. The federation applauded Dr Suraj’s leadership in promoting unity, inclusion, and cultural harmony throughout Queensland.

The award highlights the growing impact of Indian-origin community leaders in shaping Queensland’s diverse civic landscape.
