Bhopal, Jun 23 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has said that a special fortnight will be observed across the state from Tuesday till July 6 to commemorate the birth and martyrdom anniversaries of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
Speaking during a virtual address to Mayors and Chairpersons of municipal bodies from the Chief Minister’s residence on Monday, Chief Minister Yadav said Mookerjee’s entire life was dedicated to national unity and integrity.
Born on July 6, 1901, and attaining martyrdom on June 23, 1953, after protesting against the special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir, his sacrifice remains a shining symbol of national consciousness.
“Syama Prasad Mookerjee was not only an eminent educator, thinker, and Member of Parliament but also a visionary politician who founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. He always placed national interest above party politics and gave utmost importance to ideological clarity and strong organisation building,” the Chief Minister added.
He directed all municipal bodies to organise a comprehensive public service campaign during this fortnight.
He emphasised connecting the youth with Mookerjee’s nationalist ideology through youth conferences, essay competitions, dialogue programmes, and interactive sessions.
The Chief Minister instructed civic bodies to name suitable roads, parks, and public places after Syama Prasad Mookerjee following due procedure and necessary approvals.
He also called for organising tree plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns, blood donation camps, and health camps as part of the fortnight celebrations.
Highlighting Mookerjee’s faith in the power of youth, Chief Minister Yadav said the fortnight aims to inspire the new generation towards leadership, education, and social responsibility.
“This is an excellent opportunity to take the ideals of Dr. Mookerjee to the masses and reinforce our commitment to service, good governance, and nation building,” he added.
The fortnight-long programme is expected to witness widespread participation across the state, with various departments and local bodies actively organising events to pay rich tributes to the legendary leader.
