Fresh complaint filed against arrested Bengal bizman in illegal land-grabbing cases

Kolkata, Aug 16 (IANS) A new complaint has been filed against Joy Kamdar, a Kolkata-based businessman and real estate promoter, arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) earlier this year for his alleged involvement in multiple illegal land-grabbing cases, the police said on Sunday.

This time, Joy and his brother Tushar have been accused of cheating by promising to make people shareholders in the business.

Accordingly, a complaint has been filed against Joy Kamdar and Tushar Kamdar, residents of Ashwini Dutta Road in Kolkata and their company ‘Sun Constructions’.

The complainant claimed that if he arranged to take a specific property, he would be given 25 per cent of the total profit. Upon hearing this, the complainant also made arrangements for a housing project on an expensive property on Nepal Bhattacharya Street following which a written agreement was made and work on that land had started and completed.

It is alleged that after the construction work was completed, the accused tried to send the complainant away by giving him very little money, without fulfilling the agreement.

The accused even denied the terms of the agreement.

The complainant claimed that Joy and Tushar have taken possession of the property through betrayal and fraud. Realising this, a complaint was filed under criminal conspiracy and cheating. The police have started investigating the incident.

The development comes a day after Joy Kamdar approached the ED, probing the illegal land-grabbing cases against him, seeking to become an approver in the matter.

According to sources, Kamdar’s counsel has also filed a formal application before a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Kolkata, where the case is currently being heard.

It remains unclear whether the ED will accept Kamdar’s request or whether the court will grant him approver status.

The special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court has given the central probe agency until August 25 to convey its decision on the proposal.

The case centres on an alleged illegal land-grabbing nexus involving Kamdar, alleged land mafia kingpin Biswajit Poddar alias Sona Pappu, and former Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner Santanu Sinha Biswas.

Kamdar was arrested in April, while Sinha Biswas and Poddar were taken into custody in May.

Investigators claim the trio amassed substantial illegal proceeds through land-grabbing operations.
