The vision for the upcoming “House of India” community and cultural centre in Greater Springfield received a boost as Assistant Minister for Immigration Matt Thistlethwaite MP visited the proposed site. He was welcomed by Dr. Preethi Suraj, President of the Federation of Indian Communities of Queensland (FICQ) along with Shyane Newmann MP, her advisory team, and members of the local Indian community.
The delegation showcased the site and outlined the project’s long-term impact, emphasising its role as a cultural landmark and community hub. The initiative carries the support of a $5.5 million election commitment from the Labor Party, reflecting the government’s dedication to strengthening multicultural engagement in Queensland.
Designed as both a centre for the Indian community and a welcoming venue for the wider Ipswich population, the House of India will host cultural activities, festivals, and community events. More than just a building, it aims to become a space that fosters diversity, inclusivity, and stronger ties between communities, celebrating the spirit of multicultural Queensland.
