The Indian community in Perth came together recently to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti and the International Day of Non-Violence, spreading Mahatma Gandhi’s timeless messages of non-violence, truth, and Swachhata (cleanliness). The event, jointly organized by Ahinsa Australia and the Indian Consulate, attracted a large crowd, even on a weekday.
Community youth emceed the event, with children depicting Gandhi’s teachings in a skit reenacting the iconic Salt Satyagraha (Dandi March). Artistic contributions like Navya Salvi’s painting on cleanliness and a skit by Indian international students, produced by Natraj Productions, highlighted the relevance of Gandhi’s emphasis on hygiene and harmony.
Supported by prominent community associations, including the Indian Society of WA (ISWA), Hindu Council of Australia Perth, and Vishva Hindu Parishad, the event underscored the enduring influence of Gandhi’s ideals on the local Indian diaspora.
