Bhopal, April 3 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh’s Food and Civil Supplies Minister Govind Singh Rajput on Friday stated that all necessary arrangements for wheat procurement at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) starting from April 10 are being ensured in a timely manner across the state.
The Minister stated that the Revenue Department has expedited the verification process for farmers’ registered cultivation areas.
This year, a total of 1,904,000 farmers in the state have been registered for wheat procurement under the MSP, an increase of 360,000 from the previous year.
“Once the verification is complete, a slot-booking mechanism will be activated for farmers, enabling them to sell their produce at the procurement centres without any inconvenience,” the Minister said in a statement.
He shared that problems regarding the availability of gunny bags have also been resolved as the Centre has allocated an additional 50,000 bales of jute for Madhya Pradesh.
Furthermore, permission has been granted to utilise HDPE/PP bags and single-use jute gunny bags for the procurement of wheat, he stated.
Minister Rajput noted that, to ensure farmers do not face long waiting periods at procurement centres, the procurement process is being rolled out in a phased manner.
Wheat procurement at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) is scheduled to commence on April 10, 2026, in the Indore, Ujjain, Bhopal, and Narmadapuram divisions, and on April 15, 2026, in the remaining divisions.
The Centre has fixed the MSP for wheat crop at Rs 2,585 per quintal, and the state government has also announced a bonus of Rs 40 per quintal for the produce.
Therefore, farmers will receive Rs 2,625 per quintal.
“This year, despite challenges posed by global circumstances and the conflict in West Asia, the government, keeping the best interests of the farmers in mind, has set a procurement target of 7.8 million metric tonnes of wheat,” he stated.
Rajput stated that, due to the prevailing war situation in West Asia over the past month, there were apprehensions that the supply of petrol, diesel, LPG, and other essential commodities might be disrupted.
“However, through the coordinated efforts of the Central and State governments, a regular supply of petrol, diesel, and LPG is being ensured, thereby preventing any inconvenience to the general public,” he added.
