Canberra, June 17 (Indian Abroad Newsdesk)
In the lead-up to the International Day of Yoga 2025, the High Commission of India in Canberra, in partnership with BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, recently hosted the 4th Curtain Raiser event to promote yoga as a way of life grounded in balance, awareness, and well-being.
Held in Canberra, the event highlighted yoga’s role in encouraging a holistic and sustainable approach to health and lifestyle. With this year’s International Day of Yoga theme focused on “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” the curtain raiser served as a platform to introduce and inspire community participation ahead of the global celebration on June 21.
Participants engaged in guided yoga sessions, breathing practices, and mindfulness exercises. The event also included short talks on the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga, as well as its relevance in modern daily life.
Representatives from the High Commission thanked BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir for their continued collaboration and community leadership in promoting India’s spiritual heritage in Australia.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the United Nations-declared International Day of Yoga, an initiative launched by India to promote global health and harmony through the ancient practice.
The High Commission encouraged wider community participation in the main Yoga Day event scheduled to take place on June 21 at Old Parliament House in Canberra.
