Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay attended the launch of Prof Arnold Dix’s book, The Promise, in Melbourne. The book chronicles the extraordinary rescue mission that saved 41 workers trapped in the collapsed Silkyara tunnel in November 2023.
Speaking at the event, High Commissioner Baglay underscored how the rescue mission exemplified the strong people-to-people ties between India and Australia. He highlighted India’s ancient principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (The world is one family), emphasizing that service, compassion, and humanitarian efforts are fundamental to India’s civilizational values.
A standout moment of the evening was when Prof Arnold Dix delivered a speech in Sanskrit, reflecting his keen interest in ancient Indian scriptures. The High Commissioner praised Dix’s contribution to the rescue operation and lauded his growing engagement with Indian cultural and philosophical traditions.\
