The High Commissioner of India, Gopal Baglay, and the Consul General, Neetu M Bhagotia met representatives of the Indian community in Cairns during their visit on December 13–14, engaging in an interactive and wide-ranging discussion on issues of shared interest.
The meeting provided an opportunity for meaningful dialogue, with discussions focusing on community engagement, common priorities, and ways to further strengthen collaboration. The interaction was described as highly productive, reflecting the strong and evolving relationship between the Indian diaspora and diplomatic representatives.
Both the High Commissioner and the Consul General commended the Indian community for its valuable contributions and its important role in deepening India–Australia relations. They also acknowledged the community’s efforts in enhancing people-to-people connections and promoting mutual understanding between the two countries.
The meeting underscored the significance of continued engagement with the Indian community in regional centres and highlighted the diaspora’s role as a key bridge in India–Australia ties.
