Hyderabad police officer’s wife found dead at home; probe underway

Hyderabad, July 13 (IANS) The wife of a police officer allegedly died by suicide in Alwal of Medchal Malkajgiri district near Hyderabad, police said on Monday.

Hemalatha (50), wife of Chandrasekhar, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of the Charminar area in Hyderabad, was found dead at their residence in Saibaba Nagar colony in Alwal on Sunday evening.

She allegedly hanged herself on Sunday when she was alone at home. As she did not respond to phone calls from her husband, the latter informed their son, Chandrhas.

When Chandrhas reached the residence, it was locked from the inside. He, with the help of a security guard, broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling fan. They shifted her to a private hospital in Kompally, where doctors declared her brought dead.

Hemalatha is survived by her husband, son Chandrhas and daughter Geethanjali. She was running a jewellery and garment business from home.

Police suspect that Hemalatha took the extreme step due to prolonged health issues. Chandrhas stated in his complaint to the police that she had been suffering from chronic stomach and spinal problems for a long time.

The family members believe that the health problems had caused her to be mentally distressed, which may have led to the suicide.

Police shifted the body for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered at Alwal Police Station of Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate.

A police officer said they have taken up an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding Hemalatha’s death.

Meanwhile, one person was killed when a DCM van rammed into a stationary tipper-truck in Rangareddy district near Hyderabad.

The accident occurred early Monday morning under the limits of Shahbad Police Station of Future City Commissionerate.

According to police, the tipper-truck was parked on the road, and the DCM driver failed to notice it in the darkness.

DCM driver Vinod Chouhan (35) died on the spot, while the cleaner sustained injuries. Police arrested the tipper driver and registered a case against him.
