Consul General of India in Perth, Kajari Biswas joined Eleni Georggopoulou and members of the Greek community in Western Australia for celebrations marking World Greek Language Day at the Taryn Fiebig Concert Hall at Churchlands School.
The event was organised in collaboration with the Greek–Australia Bar Association and highlighted the global cultural significance of the Greek language. Observed on January 9 following recognition by UNESCO, World Greek Language Day honours the historic contribution of the language to universal culture and commemorates national poet Dionysios Solomos, author of Greece’s national anthem Hymn to Liberty.
Artists, community leaders, and guests came together for an evening featuring musical performances, literary readings, and speeches that celebrated Greek heritage and artistic expression. Recitations from well-known poems and works of literature reflected themes of cultural identity, unity, and the universal ideals of freedom, equality, and fraternity.
The programme underscored the role of cultural exchange in strengthening ties between diverse communities in Western Australia, with attendees highlighting how art and literature can bridge linguistic and cultural boundaries.
