High Commissioner of India to Australia, Gopal Baglay, attended the Australia Day celebrations organised by the Federation of Indian Associations of the ACT (FINACT) in partnership with the Yerrabi District Cricket Club on January 26, 2026, in Canberra.
The event brought together members of the Indian community and the wider Australian society, celebrating the shared values of multiculturalism and inclusivity. The occasion was graced by the presence of several senior Australian political dignitaries, including David Smith MP, Suzanne Orr MLA, Michael Pettersson MLA, Marisa Paterson MLA, Andrew Braddock MLA and Peter Cain MLA.
Representatives from various Indian diaspora organisations were also present, reflecting the diversity and vibrancy of the Indian community in the Australian Capital Territory. The gathering highlighted the growing people-to-people connections that form a strong foundation of the Australia-India relationship.
