The Indian Society of Western Australia (ISWA) hosted the vibrant Diwali Mela 2025, a celebration of Indian heritage, culture, and community spirit, which was attended by Consul General Kajari Biswas. The event brought together political leaders, dignitaries, and the wider community, reflecting the multicultural fabric of Western Australia.
Prominent attendees included Roger Cook, Premier of Western Australia; Dr Tony Buti, Attorney General and Minister for Commerce, Tertiary and International Education, and Multicultural Interests; Matt Keogh MP, Minister for Defence Personnel and Veterans’ Affairs, representing Prime Minister Anthony Albanese; and Basil Zempilas MLA, Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for State Development, Trade and Investment, Citizenship and Multicultural Interests.
Adding glamour to the celebration, Bollywood actors Chunky Panday and Poonam Dhillon graced the event. Poonam Dhillon, serving as President of the Cine and Television Artistes Association (CINTAA), highlighted potential opportunities for collaboration between India and Western Australia in film and creative industries.
The Mela featured colourful cultural performances, traditional rituals, and community activities that celebrated the richness of Indian traditions. The organisers, led by Deepak Sharma and the ISWA Committee, along with dedicated volunteers, ensured a smooth and memorable experience for all attendees.
The event not only showcased India’s cultural heritage but also strengthened community bonds, highlighting the diverse cultural landscape of Western Australia and the continuing efforts to foster cross-cultural understanding and engagement.
