India’s new High Commissioner to Australia presents credentials

CANBERRA, MAY 6/INDIAN ABROAD NEWSDESK 

India’s new High Commissioner to Australia, Nagesh Singh, presented his credentials to Governor-General Sam Mostyn AC on May 5, officially beginning his diplomatic tenure in Australia.

Following the credentials ceremony, the High Commissioner inspected the Guard of Honour.

Nagesh Singh, an Indian Foreign Service officer of the 1995 batch, took charge in Canberra in May 2026. Before his appointment to Australia, he served as India’s Ambassador to Thailand.

He succeeds Gopal Baglay as High Commissioner and is expected to focus on strengthening India-Australia cooperation in areas including trade, defence and education.

During his diplomatic career, Singh has served as Chief of Protocol between July 2018 and October 2022, Consul General in Atlanta, and in several positions at the Ministry of External Affairs as well as Indian missions to the United Nations and Paris.
