Lt. Cdr. Roopa and Lt. Cdr. Dilna, the brave officers of the INSV Tarini, were warmly felicitated at a special reception held at the Consulate premises in Perth, recently. The event was led by Senator Varun Ghosh of Australia’s Federal Parliament, Consul General Amarjeet Singh Takhi, and the Acting High Commissioner, who were joined by a large gathering of the Indian diaspora, veterans, and community leaders.
Prominent figures such as Cr. John Keogh (River Ward – City of Armadale), Cr. Jibi Joi (City of Armadale), and Cr. Raj Doshi (City of Perth) attended the event, along with representatives from several Indian cultural and community organizations, including the Indian Society of WA (ISWA), Vishva Hindu Parishad Perth, Sikh Association of WA, and Tamil Association of WA.
The event began with a captivating dance performance by students of the Academy of Indian Classical & Bollywood Dance, who also performed traditional naval dances. In their addresses, Consul General Takhi, Senator Ghosh, and the Acting High Commissioner praised the crew’s trailblazing expedition, highlighting their significant contribution to women’s empowerment and youth inspiration globally.
The INSV Tarini crew shared their inspiring journey, recounting the challenges and triumphs of the Navika Sagar Parikrama-II expedition. The reception was emceed by Ritika Menon, a University of Western Australia student from a military family and former NCC cadet, who added a personal touch to the event.
The gathering celebrated the courage and perseverance of the crew, acknowledging their extraordinary achievements in the Indian Navy’s pioneering voyage.
