New Delhi, April 8 (IANS) The Gujarat Titans’ batting all-rounder Glenn Phillips believes getting some momentum through their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against the Delhi Capitals will be key to turning around the team’s fortunes in the ongoing season.
GT, the IPL 2022 winners, have been winless so far, and a win in New Delhi will help them get off the mark on the points table. “It’s the same for me as it is for everyone else. We got ourselves into a very good position, the last game especially (against Rajasthan Royals).
“Obviously, we didn’t finish off the things well, so for us it’s all about backing our processes, staying well, and doing well. Today is a new day, and it’s a long tournament – if we get a bit of momentum going, then all goes well,” said Phillips in a pre-game chat with the broadcasters.
The New Zealand cricketer further stressed focusing only on controllable aspects and drawing motivation from the small wins he gets while playing games. “For me, it’s about staying focused on things that I can control. Cricket is a funny game.
“I just tend to focus on things that make me happy, like getting into the team, sticking to my processes as much as possible, and taking the little wins wherever they are. Hopefully that’ll keep me up and motivated for the next day,” he said.
Phillips also lauded GT’s newly-appointed batting coach, Matthew Hayden, for his process-driven approach in guiding the batters. “He has been fantastic. He was simply a process-driven player back in his day.
“I just want to take his experience and learn from what he used to do back in his day. Hopefully, extending my game as a whole will be ideal. He’s a highly experienced person, and we have a lot of fun off the field as well,” he concluded.
Delhi Capitals meet the 2022-winner Gujarat Titans in Match 14 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday.
