Tehran, June 8 (IANS) Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said early Monday that Israel attacked targets inside Iranian territory.
The attacks were carried out with air-launched ballistic missiles, the IRGC was quoted by the official news agency IRNA as saying.
The IRGC made the remarks after Iranian state media reported explosions in multiple cities across the country, including Tehran, Tabriz, Isfahan and Karaj, reports Xinhua news agency, quoting IRNA.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Telegram that the Israeli Air Force struck military targets in western and central Iran.
The Karun petrochemical plant in Mahshahr in southwestern Iran was hit and partly damaged by an Israeli projectile, Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency reported Monday, citing a provincial official. The Israeli military later confirmed it on X.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military said it intercepted a missile from Yemen Monday morning.
The IDF said in a statement that it identified and intercepted the missile launched from Yemen towards Israeli territory.
Media reports said the missile attack triggered sirens in central Israel, including the city of Tel Aviv.
The attack came after Israel’s strikes on Iran earlier on Monday, which Israel said hit military targets in western and central Iran.
The IRGC forces on Sunday launched ballistic missiles targeting the Ramat David Air Base in northern Israel in response to increased Israeli military attacks in southern Lebanon.
According to Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency, Chief Commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters Ali Abdollahi said Sunday night that if Israel expands its attacks on southern Lebanon and the Dahieh district south of Beirut, or responds to Iran’s actions, it will face more “crushing and regret-inducing blows.”
The missiles triggered sirens across northern Israel. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir said the military “will strike the enemy with determination as soon as the order is given.”
