Srinagar, Sep 1 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch said on Tuesday that its Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has filed a chargesheet in court pertaining to a land fraud case.
A statement by the Crime Branch said that the EOW Kashmir of the J&K Police’s Crime Branch has filed the chargesheet against a man and a deceased former Patwari in connection with a land fraud case involving alleged use of forged documents to obtain building permission from the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC).
According to the Crime Branch, the chargesheet in FIR No. 08/2016 under Sections 420/511, 167, 471 and 120-B RPC was filed before the Court of Sub-Judge, Srinagar, against Mushtaq Ahmad Malik, son of Ghulam Ahmad Malik, a resident of Barapather, Haft Chinar, Srinagar, and the then Patwari, who is now deceased.
The case stemmed from a complaint alleging that the accused, in conspiracy with each other, attempted to grab land bearing Khasra No. 642 and obtain building permission from the SMC by using forged documents.
The Crime Branch said that during investigation, the allegations were substantiated. The probe revealed alleged fraudulent documentation, misrepresentation of material facts and misuse of official position.
The investigation has been closed as “proved”, and the chargesheet has been filed before the competent court for judicial determination, it said.
The Crime Branch has advised the public to remain vigilant against economic frauds and report any suspicious activities to the SSP, EOW Kashmir. Complaints can also be lodged through email at (sspeow-kmr@jkpolice.gov.in).
The EOW is a specialised branch of the J&K Crime Branch Department entrusted with cases of high-profile financial/economic implications. Such cases need scientific backup, technological support, besides dedicated, focused full-time investigators.
Territorial police dealing with law and order normally don’t have time to engage in full-time, continued investigation of such crimes, and that was the reason for the creation of the EOW under the Crime Branch Department.
