L-G Sandhu reiterates PM Modi-led govt’s pledge to make Delhi clean, green

New Delhi, July 7 (IANS) Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu on Tuesday reiterated the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government’s unwavering commitment to build a clean, green and climate-resilient National Capital.

Sandhu joined Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a plantation drive on the Ridge and flagged off 11 new e-buses to strengthen clean public transport in Delhi, sharing the Centre’s long-term pledge to improve the city’s environment, in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.

In a message on X, Sandhu said, “Joined Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShah Ji, Hon’ble Union Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change Shri @byadavbjp Ji, Hon’ble Minister of State Shri @hdmalhotra Ji, and Hon’ble Chief Minister Smt. @gupta_rekha Ji today for a series of landmark initiatives advancing Delhi’s green, clean and sustainable future.”

“Earlier, Hon’ble HM Shri Amit Shah Ji launched the Delhi Ridge Ecological Restoration Campaign with a plantation drive at the Central Ridge and Nanakpura Ridge, in line with Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji’s vision of ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ – a defining milestone in Delhi’s environmental journey,” said the Lieutenant Governor on X.

“The campaign marks the beginning of Bharat’s largest urban eco-restoration programme, aiming to restore over 6,300 hectares of degraded Ridge forests through the plantation of more than 1 crore native saplings,” said Sandhu.

“Hon’ble HM also flagged off 11 new e-buses to strengthen clean public transport, inaugurated the Automatic Vehicle Testing Station at Nand Nagri along with three newly developed vehicle depots, and laid the foundation stone for a High Security Prison at Narela, which will help ease overcrowding across Delhi’s jails,” the L-G said in his post on X.

“These transformative initiatives reflect the Centre’s unwavering commitment to Delhi and our shared doordarshi sankalp to build a clean, green and climate-resilient National Capital, in line with the vision of #ViksitBharat@2047,” he wrote on X.
