Indian envoys visit Sri Durga Temple
Melbourne, February 26 (Indian Abroad Newsdesk)
High Commissioner Gopal Baglay and Consul General Dr. Sushil Kumar marked the festival of Maha Shivratri with a visit to Sri Durga Temple in Melbourne, recently. They offered prayers and engaged with devotees and members of the temple management committee, celebrating the occasion with the Indian community in Australia.
Maha Shivratri, a significant Hindu festival, is dedicated to Lord Shiva and symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness. Devotees observe the day with fasting, meditation, and night-long worship, seeking spiritual growth and inner peace. The festival is believed to commemorate either the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati or the cosmic dance (Tandava) performed by Shiva, representing creation and destruction.
The presence of Indian diplomats at the celebrations underscored the importance of cultural and religious traditions among the Indian diaspora. Their visit highlighted the role of community spaces like Sri Durga Temple in fostering faith, unity, and heritage preservation among Indian Australians.
