Melbourne, May 16 (Indian Abroad Newsdesk)

Monash University recently launched a cultural exhibition titled ‘The Place of Indian Music and Dance in Australia’ at the Performing Arts Centre, celebrating 60 years of its music program and the vibrant presence of Indian arts in Australia.

The event was graced by Consul General Dr. Sushil Kumar, who emphasised the role of cultural diplomacy in strengthening ties between India and Australia. He praised the exhibition as a tribute to shared artistic heritage and a testament to the enduring cultural connections between the two nations.

The exhibition showcased rare highlights including the Tagore collection of Indian musical instruments, the legacy of pioneering Australian choreographer Louise Lightfoot, and the significant contributions of Tara Rajkumar OAM in promoting Indian classical dance in Australia.

An elegant performance by Divya Rasa Dance troupe, portraying a range of classical Indian dance styles, captivated the audience and added a dynamic dimension to the launch.

The event served not only as a celebration of music and dance but also as a reflection of the growing cultural synergy between India and Australia in education, performance, and heritage.
