Bhopal, July 19 (IANS) In a major step towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure, the Council of Ministers has approved Rs 776 crore 13 lakh for the upgradation of 73 health institutions across the state. The move aims to ensure easy, accessible, high-quality health services for citizens, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.
According to the Cabinet decision, 29 sub-health centres will be upgraded into 6-bed primary health centres, while 19 primary health centres will be expanded into community health centres. Additionally, 18 community health centres will be upgraded into 50-bed civil hospitals, and seven institutions will be developed into 100-bed hospitals.
This comprehensive expansion is expected to significantly enhance medical facilities and reduce the burden on existing hospitals.
To support the expanded infrastructure, the government has sanctioned the creation of 1,600 regular posts and 71 new contractual positions. Furthermore, 560 personnel will be hired through outsourcing agencies to ensure smooth functioning of these upgraded institutions.
The Council of Ministers has also approved an annual expenditure of Rs 122.83 crore to sustain these operations. Officials stated that the upgradation will provide better medical facilities not only to residents of the immediate area but also to people from surrounding regions.
With more beds, improved facilities and additional staff, patients will have quicker access to treatment, reducing the need to travel long distances for specialised care. The decision reflects the government’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and addressing the growing demand for medical services.
By expanding the capacity of sub-health centres, primary health centres and community health centres, the state aims to bridge gaps in healthcare accessibility and ensure timely treatment for citizens.
“The initiative will strengthen the state’s preparedness against public health challenges and improve overall patient care. The expansion of civil hospitals and establishment of 100-bed facilities is expected to particularly benefit rural populations, who often face difficulties in accessing advanced medical services,” a government official said.
With this approval, Madhya Pradesh is set to witness a significant transformation in its healthcare landscape, bringing quality medical services closer to the people.
