Bhopal, Aug 27 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested Chief Engineer (Electrical) and Superintending Engineer (Electrical) of BSNL, Bhopal, in a Rs 75,000 bribery case.
The CBI registered the instant case on Thursday on allegations that the accused Chief Engineer (Electrical) and Superintending Engineer (Electrical) posted at BSNL, Bhopal, demanded an undue advantage of Rs 2 lakh each for themselves and a co-accused from a Jabalpur-based firm which executed Operation & Comprehensive Maintenance (OCM) and electrical installation-related work of BSNL.
The CBI said the bribe amount was demanded to process pending bills of the firm for 14 different works.
The CBI laid a trap and caught both accused BSNL officers in Bhopal red-handed while accepting an undue advantage of Rs 75,000 each as part payment of the demanded bribe of Rs 2 lakh from each accused.
Searches are being conducted at the residential and office premises of the accused persons in Bhopal, Lucknow and Kanpur, the CBI said.
In a separate development, the CBI arrested a senior accounts officer and two assistant accounts officers of the Regional Pay & Accounts Office, CISF, Ranchi, for demanding and taking a bribe of over Rs 48,000 from a colleague, an official said on Thursday.
The trio had demanded the bribe from a constable for releasing payment against various allowance bills of his unit’s colleagues, the official said.
The CBI statement identified the arrested as Senior Accounts Officer Santosh Kumar Mahto and assistant accounts officers Sunil Kumar and Sujit Kumar Singh.
The accused will be produced before the competent court on Friday, it said.
The CBI registered the instant case on Wednesday against the three accused public servants.
It was alleged that the accused officials demanded a bribe from the complainant, Head Constable, CISF, NTPC, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, to process and pay various bills, including Travelling Allowance (TA) bills and Children Education Allowance bills, for different officials in his unit.
The CBI laid a trap on Thursday at the Regional Pay & Accounts Office, CISF, MHA, Ranchi, the CBI said.
During the trap proceedings, the CBI caught all three accused officials red-handed while they demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 48,400 from the complainant. The CBI recovered Rs 48,400 as bribe money during the trap proceedings.
The CBI is conducting searches at five places related to the accused persons in Ranchi and Dhanbad. During the searches, the CBI seized incriminating documents and cash.
