Omar Abdullah holds pre-budget consultation with key Depts

Jammu, Jan 20 (IANS) J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday held pre-budget consultation with key departments ahead of the budget session of the legislative assembly.

The Chief Minister reviewed departmental priorities, assessed public needs and stressed the importance of aligning proposals with the overall development goals of Jammu and Kashmir.

He laid emphasis on people-centric initiatives, efficient service delivery and inclusive growth to ensure balanced development across all regions.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds the portfolio of Finance Minister, held extensive deliberations with departments including Power Development, Housing and Urban Development, Finance, Revenue, General Administration, Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs, Tourism, Information and Information Technology.

The meetings were attended by Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister, Additional Chief Secretary Tourism, Additional Chief Secretary Power Development, Principal Secretary Finance, Administrative Secretaries of Housing and Urban Development, General Administration, Information, Revenue, Information Technology and Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs, besides senior officers of the Finance Department and other concerned officials.

The consultative process will continue on January 21 and January 22 with another 15 key departments.

The Budget for 2026-27 will be presented by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the Assembly on February 6.

This will be the second budget to be presented by the Chief Minister.

Omar Abdullah also holds the finance and planning department, and his second budget in office after coming to power in 2024 is being keenly awaited by government servants, people connected with trade and industry and above all, the common citizen.

There are many electoral promises made by the ruling National Conference, including 200 units of free electricity to poor families, which are still unfulfilled.
