PM-SETU approves Rs 735.70 crore investment for ITI clusters in Rajasthan, UP and Telangana

New Delhi, Sep 8 (IANS) The National Steering Committee (NSC) of the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) on Tuesday approved Strategic Investment Plans (SIPs) with a combined project outlay of Rs 735.70 crore for Industrial Training Institute (ITI) clusters in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana.

The fifth NSC meeting of PM-SETU was held under the chairpersonship of Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Ministry and state governments, representatives of multilateral development banks and industry partners, along with Dilip Kumar, Director General, Directorate General of Training, and G. Madhumita Das, Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser, MSDE.

The latest approvals take the total investment sanctioned under PM-SETU to Rs 2,171 crore across nine ITI clusters, giving further momentum to the government’s efforts to modernise ITIs and make them more responsive to changing industry requirements.

In Rajasthan, the NSC approved a Rs 241 crore Strategic Investment Plan submitted by H.G. Infra Engineering Limited for the Bhiwadi ITI cluster. Government ITI Bhiwadi will serve as the hub, with Government ITIs in Alwar, Neemrana, Tijara and Kishangarh Bas functioning as spoke institutions.

For Telangana, the Committee approved a Rs 254.30 crore SIP submitted by ZEN Technologies Limited for the Medchal ITI cluster. Government ITI Medchal will be the hub, while Government ITIs at Alwal, Shameerpet, Kukunoorpally and Siddipet will form the spoke institutions.

The Medchal proposal had earlier been deferred during the fourth NSC meeting pending clarifications on operational and financial aspects. Following detailed responses from the anchor industry partner on course structure, financial calculations, eligibility, documentation and civil works, the Committee found the clarifications satisfactory and approved the proposal.

In Uttar Pradesh, the NSC cleared a Rs 240.40 crore SIP submitted by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) for the Meerut ITI cluster. Government ITI, Saket, Meerut, will serve as the hub, supported by Government ITIs in Ghaziabad, Hapur, Gautam Buddha Nagar and Baghpat as spokes.

The approved plans are aimed at transforming government ITIs through an industry-led Hub-and-Spoke cluster model. The investments will support infrastructure modernisation, upgradation of existing trades, introduction of new long-term and short-term courses and strengthening of operational capabilities.
